RIDING AN ELECTRIC CYCLE

How does pedal assist work?

Pedal assist provides motor support as you pedal, automatically adjusting the power output based on your pedalling effort. Most systems offer multiple assist levels, allowing you to increase power for uphill rides or reduce it for more exercise.

How can I adjust the power settings?

Power levels are typically controlled through a handlebar-mounted LCD display. You can easily switch between assist modes using the up and down buttons to find the level of support that suits your ride.

What happens if the battery runs out while riding?

Most electric bikes include a battery level indicator, either through LED lights or a digital display. If the battery depletes during your ride, you can continue pedalling as you would on a traditional bicycle—just without motor assistance.

BATTERY

Can the battery recharge itself during use?

Currently, regenerative braking is not a practical solution for electric bicycles. While some products may advertise this feature, it often adds unnecessary weight, complexity, and cost. The amount of energy recovered is typically less than 2%. However, Roxform batteries are designed to offer efficient, long-distance performance to support even demanding commutes.

How long does the battery last?

The average lifespan of a Lithium-Ion battery is between 2 to 4 years, depending on usage and care. Over time, the battery’s capacity will naturally decrease. If the battery’s performance drops below 80% of its original range, it’s time to consider a replacement. Always dispose of used batteries in accordance with your local environmental regulations.

How long does it take to charge the battery and how much does it cost?

Charging a fully depleted battery typically takes around 3 hours. The cost of a full charge is very low — just a few pence depending on your local electricity rates, making it highly economical.

How does cold weather affect battery performance?

Cold weather can slightly reduce battery efficiency, as temperature affects the chemical reactions inside. To minimize this, store the battery indoors at room temperature and install it on your bike just before your ride during colder months.

How often should I charge the battery?

It’s best to charge your battery after every use and avoid leaving it in a discharged state. Roxform batteries use Lithium-Ion technology, which does not suffer from the “memory effect” seen in older battery types like Ni-Cad or NiMH.

Do I need to remove the battery to charge it?

No, Roxform batteries include a built-in charging port, allowing you to charge the battery while it’s still attached to the bike.

SECURITY

How do I secure the battery?

Roxform batteries are designed with a built-in locking mechanism and can be secured to the bike using a key. You also have the option to remove the battery when leaving your bike unattended for added security. Each battery comes with at least two keys, so you can keep a spare in a safe place in case one is lost.

Is electric bike insurance available?

Yes, we highly recommend insuring your electric bike for added peace of mind. Many providers offer specialized e-bike insurance, which may include theft, damage, and third-party liability. Using a high-quality, approved lock may also be required by insurance companies for full coverage.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING

How should I clean and maintain my electric bike?

Avoid using high-pressure hoses when cleaning your electric bike, as they may damage the electronic components. Instead, use a warm damp cloth or bike-specific cleaner, and dry thoroughly after cleaning. Always remove the battery before cleaning and avoid direct contact with electrical components or battery terminals. Never fully submerge your bike in water.

How often should I service my bike?

Service frequency depends on how often and under what conditions you ride:

  • Initial service: Recommended after the first month or 100 miles of riding (within 2 months of purchase).
  • Low usage (occasional rides in dry weather): Seasonal servicing, with one major service annually.
  • Medium to high usage (regular commuting, mixed weather): Seasonal servicing and a major service every 1000 miles.

Can any cycle shop service my electric bike?

Yes. Most electric bikes use maintenance-free motors, meaning standard cycle shops are typically equipped to handle routine servicing and adjustments.
